Preparing for Surgery
Before your procedure, our team will provide personalized guidance to help you prepare with confidence. This may include a pre-operative appointment with anesthesia, typically scheduled within 14 days of surgery, to ensure a safe plan is in place for your procedure.
In most cases, patients can expect:
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink after midnight before surgery (unless your doctor provides different instructions).
- Medications: Some prescriptions may need to be stopped or adjusted; our team will review this with you.
- What to bring: Photo ID, insurance card, list of medications, and any required paperwork.
- Arrival: Your arrival time is determined by the hospital and operating room department. You’ll be notified of this time during your pre-surgical anesthesia appointment or by phone the day before surgery.
- Support person: Hospital policy requires that a responsible adult remain in the building during your surgery and drive you home afterward to ensure your safety and comfort.
After Surgery
Healing begins once surgery is complete. We’ll provide discharge instructions tailored to your procedure, but typical guidance includes:
- Incision care: Keep the site clean and dry, and follow our instructions closely.
- Activity: Light walking is encouraged. Avoid heavy lifting (over 10 lbs) until cleared by your surgeon.
- Pain management: Most patients manage discomfort with over-the-counter medication, though prescriptions are provided if needed.
- Follow-up care: You’ll be scheduled for a follow-up visit approximately two weeks after surgery to review your recovery and address any questions.
- When to call: Contact us right away if you experience fever, severe pain, swelling, or signs of infection.
